What is a VoIP Number?

Dec 28, 2021

Brief History of VoIP

VoIP stands for “Voice over Internet Protocol” and is a way to make phone calls (and send text messages) over the internet.

As the internet developed, it was quickly realized that there was a need for communication methods to evolve with it.

And then, in 1995, VoIP was developed by a company called VocalTec.

Since then, VoIP has gone through a number of changes. One of the biggest changes VoIP went through was with the introduction of the smartphone. This allowed users to use VoIP even on a regular cellular device.

VoIP was developed to be a cheaper and more flexible alternative for businesses when compared to traditional phone plans.

Even today, using VoIP services like Texting.io for bulk texting and other features is significantly cheaper and simpler than doing so on a regular phone plan.
